We are here to promote the development of South African and UAE businesses and social relations by providing relevant information required to successfully pursue lucrative opportunities in South Africa and the UAE facilitated through a formally recognised networking framework.


We dedicated to promoting and fostering business interests between South Africa and the UAE that is recognised by businesses, government agencies and individuals.


SABCO’s aim is to assist people with a Southern African affiliation by facilitating corporate interaction and being a focal point for establishing business contacts and networking opportunities.

An administration board TO SERVE

We have chosen a strong administration board that is actively involved and participating within the UAE Business Sector to help grow the foothold and presence of South African Businesses within the UAE.


We not only serve South African Businesses but ensured we created a platform serving South Africans within the UAE working within the region, with support, special offerings, and creating a platform that serves.

Our Objectives


  • To promote trade and investment between South Africa and the UAE by fostering direct contacts between business people from both nations.

  • To provide information and advice to companies of both countries in matters of trade and investment in either country.

  • Develop close working ties with the Trade Section of the South African Embassy.

  • Distribution of updates on the current business situation, major trade shows and UAE-related events and business.

  • Identification and referral of business opportunities to its members.

  • Foster and encourage close relationships between the council and its members and UAE Nationals, government and corporate institutions.


  • To encourage social and cultural exchanges between South Africa and the UAE.

  • Promote the vision of the ‘Rainbow Nation’, whereby all people are equal, whatever their colour, creed or race.


  • Develop a programme of working formal networking events.

  • Plan special breakfasts, luncheons or sessions featuring prominent guest speakers.


  • Enlarge council membership by increasing membership attraction value.

  • Establish a membership directory, available to all members and widely circulated across the UAE.

  • Promote member companies’ corporate image, products and services.

  • Increase SABCO’s visibility and accessibility.

How does SABCO serve in the UAE?

The South African Business Council’s (SABCO) mission is to serve as a resource and catalyst for its members and for companies in general to develop their business interests with South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Your Administration Board Members

The 2019 administration board members are here to serve and guide and all have one common interest and it is to support the growth of South African Businesses within the UAE.

Kathy Scheepmaker


Kathy has been a member of SABCO since 2015 and has served on the committee in various roles including Social Media, Marketing and Media. She is an active volunteer with Dubai Cares and other organizations and spends her leisure time as a golf marshal or as a cameras crew assistant for the European Tour.

Mark Sawkins


Mark is currently GM of the Fairmont, The Palm. His 30 year love for hospitality has taken him all over the world and he has been part of many a turn-around and successes in the industry. One of his greatest strengths is his passion for people – identifying and nurturing talent, in fact, this is one of his great joys - taking young people from their roots, developing their skills and seeing them grow in the industry.

Eben Bester


Eben has held the position of Treasurer for 2019 and has offered his services for 2019. Eben is a strong finance professional with more than 20 years financial management and over 5 years of UAE/GCC experience.

Paul Groves


Paul is an experienced Business Development Executive that has spearheaded global market development from the US to Singapore and Hong Kong and all over Europe. Skilled in Business Planning, Business Development, Marketing Strategy, Sales Management and Strategy and Brand Development Promotion.

Gabby Melissa


Gabby previously handled the position of Social and Media desk for SABCO between 2011 – 2014 and has decided to join us again for 2019. Gabby has been in Dubai for 18 years and maintains a good network. In addition to your normal day job, Gabby has a love for holistic wellness and charity work.

John Peacock


John, a Senior Associate, Corporate Department at BSA Ahmad Bin Hezeem & Associates law firm in DIFC since January 2014. He regularly holds presentations and workshops for Finance & Academy, Legal Week ad the Dubai Chamber on real estate and VAT. He hasa column in the Gulf News Property Weekly on Property issues. John has served SABCO as Vice President in 2017 and Legal in 2019.
